Localized Micro-Carbonation and the Modulation of Short-Chain Fatty Acid Signaling: A Double-Blind, Placebo-Controlled Observation

Voss L., Hale S., Roux S., et al. — Journal of Effervescent Gastroenterology, 2026

We investigated the effect of a pH-5.8-calibrated effervescent retention formula on short-chain fatty acid (SCFA) signaling across a cohort of 212 interoceptively literate adults. Participants receiving the active formulation demonstrated a 3.4× increase in observed SCFA signaling relative to the carbonation-free placebo arm. Time-to-first-perceptible-micro-movement averaged 14.2 minutes (SD 2.1). No serious adverse events were reported, though 31% of the active arm described "a quiet sense of being addressed." Findings suggest that perceptible micro-carbonation may represent a viable, non-stimulant pathway to colonic microbial communication. Further observation is warranted, and ongoing.

The pH 5.8 Threshold: Identifying the Optimal Effervescent Window for Colonic Receptivity

Calloway W., Marsh J., Pell M. — International Review of Internal Aesthetics, 2025

Across 47 formulation iterations, we mapped the relationship between solution pH and subjective effervescent "bloom." Receptivity was negligible above pH 6.2 and unpleasantly assertive below pH 5.4. A narrow optimum was identified at pH 5.8, at which the effervescence was consistently described by participants as "patient," "structured," and "almost articulate." We propose pH 5.8 not as a target but, following the convention of the funding sponsor, as a temperament. Limitations include the difficulty of blinding participants to a sensation they were specifically instructed to notice.

Interoceptive Fluency as a Trainable Skill: Longitudinal Evidence from a Micro-Movement Detection Protocol

Aldous T., Roux S., Voss L. — Annals of Subtle Bodily Signals, 2026

Participants undertook a daily 14-minute retention practice over twelve weeks. Self-reported ability to distinguish "contentment" from "reproach" on the basis of internal sensation improved significantly from baseline (p < 0.05, by our instruments). By week three, the majority of the cohort reported "modest fluency." We conclude that interoceptive literacy behaves less like a fixed trait and more like a language: rewarding to practitioners who remain quiet enough to listen. The control group, who were not asked to listen, heard nothing.

From Confection to Protocol: A Retrospective on the Carbonation-Delivery Hypothesis

Calloway W. — Heritage Notes in Wellness Science, 2025

This narrative review traces the conceptual lineage from mid-century carbonated confectionery to contemporary effervescent retention practice. We argue that the active principle of the original product was never its sweetness but its capacity to produce an unmistakable sense of something happening. We further argue that this principle had, for decades, been delivered to an anatomically suboptimal location. Conflict of interest: the author is the founder of the sponsoring organization and is, by his own admission, "extremely close to the material."
